Substitutes part one ………..

Those who love to bake will relate to today’s post. In baking there are many things which one needs for the preparation of a delicious recipe. Sometimes it happens when you are in the middle of a recip, you eventually realize that there might be some ingredients missing from your shelves.
The last thing which you would do is leave your recipe in the middle just because of that. Here comes the need of knowing those substitutes in such situations. Knowing the baking substitutes will help you in many ways. For example, there are places where finding baking ingredients is not an easy task. So for my bakeoholic friends who love to bake but are unable to try some recipes just because of this hurdle, here is the substitute chart which will definitely help you for future baking:

• In many recipes you need to use sour cream. If it’s not available just use plain yogurt.

• 1 cup white sugar can be replaced with ½ cup brown sugar.

• If you are short of baking powder, cream of tartar or baking soda can be used instead.

• If a recipe asks for 1 teaspoon lemon juice and you dont6 have it, just use ¼ teaspoon cider vinegar.

• There are times when a recipe asks for self–rising flour. If it’s not available in your area just add 1- ½ teaspoons baking powder plus ½ teaspoon salt and enough plain flour to measure 1 cup.

• Substitute for 1 cup butter milk is a mixture of 1 tablespoon lemon juice or white vinegar with added milk. Leave this mixture for 5 minutes and use it as a substitute for butter milk. Another choice for butter milk substitute is 1 cup plain yogurt.

Give try to these substitutes when needed and see how easy baking gets. Have fun while baking as it’s something which is meant for the pleasure. Good results can only be obtained if you are really into it and enjoying the whole procedure. Do not worry or stop baking if your recipe turns out bad. Just keep trying and trust me you will succeed finally.

Happy baking
