I mentioned in one of my previous blog that baking for kids is the best thing specially baking a novelty cake on their birthday. But it’s not just that only kids love to have different shape cakes but adults too enjoy such things.
 Especially if the birthday party is arranged by your loved ones and the cake is of certain shape or design which somehow represents your personality, it’s really fun. Few days back I got a chance to bake a cake for a guy’s 34th birthday. Order was placed by his wife who was giving him a surprise birthday party. Theme of the party was inspired by Pirates of Caribbean, so I decided to bake him a pirate-ship cake. Here is what I used for the preparation of the sponge:




• 1 and half cup softened butter

• 3 ounce cream cheese softened

• 1 cup sugar

• 5 eggs

• 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

• 1 teaspoon lemon extract

• 3 cup flour

• 1 teaspoon baking powder

• ½ teaspoon salt

• 1 cup buttermilk

In a larger bowl take cream together with butter, cream cheese, and sugar until fluffy. Add eggs one at a time and beat well along with that add extracts and keep beating. Combine flour, baking powder and salt; add alternately with butter milk into the creamed mixture.




Bake in a greased pan at 175 degree C for 1 hour and 20 minutes or until the tooth pick comes out clean. Cool for 10 minutes before removing from the pan. Ice it with butter cream icing in colors of your choice.

This cake will serve 15 -17 people.
